Whether you wish to mountain bike through the natural surroundings close to Cockington Village, where there are 6km of trails to explore, or simply cycle along the panoramic coastal network linking Torquay, Paignton and Brixham; we are proud to offer a range of cycling routes to suit all ages, ability and experience. Cycle hire is available from several local bike shops, who will be happy to assist with all of your requirements. Pop into one of our Tourist Information Centres and pick up a list of the hire shops in the area. While Torquay may be built on seven hills, the road following the natural curve of the Bay are generally very flat and boast some stunning views.
There are miles of cycle lanes in the Bay, as well as those managed by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust. It is these that will let you explore off road routes through the countryside, which are especially suitable for mountain bikes. The more adventurous cyclists might like to use the English Riviera as a base to explore other areas of Devon, like the stunning Dartmoor National Park.
Torbay also participates in Bike Week every June and offers a full range of activities from demonstration days to family cycle rides and mountain bike tasters. For more information visit www.bikeweek.org.uk
With more and more people taking to two wheels, now is the perfect time to explore the beautiful surroundings of the English Riviera and let a bike take you to places off the beaten track. Cycling is a sustainable and healthy activity for all the family and a great way of getting some fresh air and exercise whilst also doing a spot of sightseeing. Go on - get on yer bike!
